Music with The Old Codgers
The "Old Codgers" meet in a member's house to hear and discuss their selection of Fine Music. Usually there is about 90 minutes of music, always followed by a sumptious Afternoon Tea. Partners are always welcome.
The group nominally meets on the afternoon of the Second Monday each Month [excepting January] at 2.30 p.m. - i.e. the afternoon of the Club's General Meeting. NOTE: during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule has been varied and generally conducted via ZOOM to allow for social distancing (see dates below or in the Club's Newsletter).
Current and recent music programs are:
- Monday 14 August 2022, 14:30: we will convene at Hugh Knight's home at Eastwood: to come and enjoy the music, advise your intention to attend (to allow for catering et cetera) at the morning General Meeting.
Attendance will be capped at 14 people all fully vaccinated (unless medically exempt); masks suggested while listening to the music.
- Monday 10 July 2022, 14:30: eleven attended the OCMG gathering at Ross and Sybil Beattie's house at Carlingford for about 90 minutes of a selection of music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Francesco Xaverio Geminiani, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Clara Schumann [Wieck], Johann Georg Albrechtsberger and Léon Boëllmann, partaking in the usual enjoyable repast and convivial chat afterwards.

- Monday 8 May 2023, 14:30: Bob and Margaret Cruikshank's house at Cheltenham was the venue for this month's OCMG,

- Monday 13 March 2023, 14:30: 11 music enthusiasts at Bob and Margaret Cruikshank, Cheltenham.
- Monday 13 February 2023, 14:30: Brian and Deidre Haywood's home in Cheltenham.
- Monday 14 November 2022, 14:30: nine music lovers enjoyed the music presented at Andrew and Gillian Davidson's house at Wahroonga, our last OCMG gathering for 2022.
- Monday 10 October 2022, 14:30: 11 music lovers enjoyed the music presented at Colin and Jane Jones' North Rocks home, with music selected by Col.
- Monday 12 September 2022, 14:30: Hugh Knight hosted OCMG at Eastwood again, with music selected by various regular mebers, eight people attending.
- Monday 8 August 2022, 14:30: Bob and Margaret Cruikshank's house at Cheltenham was the venue for this month's OCMG, four members and their wives enjoying both the 1½ hour selection of fine music and the sumptuous repast and chat that followed.
- Monday 4 July 2022, 14:30: Hugh Knight hosted OCMG at his Eastwood home, six members and four wives enjoying the music presented.
- Monday 6 June 2022, 14:30: six members and three wives convened at Brian and Deirdre Haywood’s home
- Monday 9 May 2022, 14:30: our May OCMG saw seven members and four wives gather at John and Pam Peters' house at Cheltenham.

- Monday 14 March 2022, 14:30: Ross Beattie hosted ten attendees for a 90 minutes of selected music (Max Bruch, Sean O'Boyle, Joachim Raff, Arvo Pärt, G&S, Richard Strauss) and afternoon tea.
- Monday 14 February 2022, 14:30: following another COVID-19 LockDown (Omnicron variant), the Old Codgers Music Circle started the year with a cautious 'face-to-face' gathering at Bob Cruikshank's: 11 attendees enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon.
- Monday 8 November 2021, 14:30: out of LockDown again, so Andrew Davidson will host an in-person gathering at his house. Come and enjoy! Advise Andrew of the Club of your intention to attend to allow for catering et cetera.
- Monday 11 October 2021, 14:30: Bob Cruikshank selected and provided the music well suited to present via ZOOM. .
- Monday 13 September 2021, 14:30: John Peters hosted our September meeting via ZOOM., basing selections on the theme “Australian composers or Australian performers".
- Monday 9 August 2021, 14:30: Hugh Knight presented this day's programme via ZOOM. Once some early technical difficulties were addressed, we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of music by Paul Terracini, Alfonso X ‘El Sabio’, J S Bach, Cesar Franck, Camille Saint-Saens, Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky, Pietro Mascagni and Johann Strauss II.
- Monday 12 July 2021, 14:30: COVID-19 (Delta-variant) led to another LockDown, so Brian Haywood presented his (very nice) selection of music via ZOOM. Tchaikovsky (The Solemn Overture 1812 – op49); Dvorak (Symphony No 9 in E minor - The New World); Vivaldi (Concerto ‘per flautino’ in C major: Michael Copley soprano recorder); Claire Edwardes – percussion: (a) Eotvos (Leafcutter), (b) Steve Reich (Vermont); The Three Tenors: Jose Carreras – Tu, Ca Nun Chiagne, Placido Domingo – Vesti L Giubba, Luciano Pavarotti – Nessun Dorma.
- Monday 7 June 2021, 14:30: 10 participants gathered at John and Pam Peters' home at Cheltenham for some exquisite and eclectic music, followed by afternoon tea and chatter.
- Monday 10 May 2021, 14:30: Andrew and Gillian Davidson presented a selection from his extensive collection at Wahroonga, followed by the usual great repast.
- Monday 12 April 2021, 14:30: Ross Beattie presented music by Alfonso X [El Sabio] (1221-1284; Iberian), Joachim Raff (1822-1882; German-Swiss), Max Bruch (1838-1920; German); Remo Giazotto (1910-1998; Italian) [Attrib.: Albinoni, Tomaso (1671-1751; Italian)] and Clara Schumann née Wieck (1819-1896; German); 12 attendees. Great tucker followed.
- Monday 8 March 2021, 14:30: Bob Cruikshank had planned to present music by Franck, Piazzolla, Roman, Scott, Mozart, CPE Bach and Schubert. Regrettably illness intervened and the event was cancelled.
- Monday 8 February 2021, 14:30 [live!!!]: Bob Cruikshank hosted a gathering of the Old Codgers, presention his choice of fine music composed by Villa-Lobos, Zelenka, Dvorak, Bach, Marais, Handel and Lewis. Refreshments followed. 13 attendees.
- Monday 14 December 2020, 14:30 [live!!!] (date&time changed 05dec2020): Ross Beattie played a collection of Christmas music selected by members for our last meeting in 2020: 16 attendees shared afternoon tea after the music.

Epping and District Probus is a men's social club for retirees or semi-retirees. If you live anywhere near Epping (NSW) we invite you to join our Club and participate in our activities - to have Fun, enjoy Friendship and enhance Fellowship in retirement. Our members come from diverse backgrounds, and our Club provides them with opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances.
