Jim Sheppard [jshep@stoneyburn.ca, 16 May 2006] eMailed:
I am looking for the baptism details of a Henry son of James SHEPPARD/SHEPHEARD, seaman of Bridgwater-Stogursey area 1810-1820.
What we know:
1 ADM 38 7474 Description Book HMS Ajax (4 Feb 1853): gives Henry's age as 34 years, 9 months and his place of birth as Bridgwater Somerset. Trade brought up to sea.
2 Marriage Certificate: Henry Sheppard and Elizabeth Vigers shows Henry's father as James Shepheard seaman.
3 In June 1836 a Henry Sheppard age 25 born in Bridgwater was listed as the mate of the St. Piere of Bridgwater; James Pooleman Owner. (We cannot be sure this is our Henry).
There is a Stogursey baptismal record for a Henry son of James and Sarah 1810 which is the best match I have found in over 25 years of searching for this family. Dates are in the right timeframe and forenames of siblings match those of Henry's children born in Cornwall.
Do you have any additional information on the Shepherd(s) of Stogursey and environs?
Perhaps James Sheppard, the father of Henry (baptised 1810 at Stogursey), was related to the family of Mary Perrett and Joseph Shepherd.
