The Egyptian (2) was an Æ1 barque of 359 tons built
at Shields in 1825, and managed by Kerr, Alexander & Co.,
Agents. The Egyptian left London as a convict transport on 9 April
1839 under the command of Jn Skelton, reaching HobartTown on 23 August
with 179 convict boys bound for Port Arthur .
She left Dublin on 19 August 1840 still mastered by Skelton, arriving in Hobart on 12 December 1840 after a voyage of 115 days . She carried 170 male convicts to van Dieman's Land, together with a guard of 29 men of the 96th Regiment commanded by Lt Huganin and Ensign Wilson, and the guard's families. There were no deaths during the voyage. The convicts may have been landed at Port Arthur prior the vessel arrived in Hobart. Surgeon John Kidd may have been assisted on this voyage by a surgeon named Read. The Egyptian departed on 13 January bound for Ceylon with ballast.
