Francis Littlefield, born and/or baptised about 1565 at Exeter, Devon, son of FRANCIS LITTLEFIELD and ANNIS POPE, married Mary Hill about 1589/1591 at St Peter’s church, Titchfield [or possibly Litchfield] in Hampshire. Mary had apparently been born about 1564 in Exeter; Mr. Marlyn Lewis of Portland, Oregon (2013) cites the Pedigree of Harry Dale Dick and Pedigree of Eunice Allen Badger to say that Mary was born circa 1570, the daughter of WILLIAM HILL (born circa 1545 at Titchfield, Hampshire) and JOAN ANNABLE (born circa 1547 at Titchfield) who had married circa 1569 at Titchfield. Francis and Mary were the parents of:

Edmund Littlefield, second of six known children of FRANCIS LITTLEFIELD and MARY HILL, was born 2 June 1592 and baptised 27 June 1592 at Tichfield, Hampshire, England. Edmund died 11 December 1661 in Wells (or perhaps Kennebunkport], York County, Maine. Edmund married Annis [Agnes] Austin (daughter born on 1 February 1596 in Exeter, Devon to RICHARD AUSTIN and AGNES) on 16 October 1614 in St. Peter's, Titchfield:
"Joseph had a sister Annis who mar. Edmund Littlefield, who came to New England in 1638. Francis of Dedham and Matthew of Maine are thought by some authorities to be brothers of Joseph. It is thought by some that Richard of Charlestown might have been another brother but proof is lacking.
— Moore, Edith Austin A Genealogy of the Descendants of Robert Austin of Kingstown, Rhode Island. 1951. p10.
Edmund (a clothier) and Agnes were the parents of eleven children:
Annis was buried on 12 December 1677 in Exeter, Devon.
born and/or baptised in June 1598 at Titchfield, Hampshire, was the son of FRANCIS
LITTLEFIELD and his wife MARY HILL. James married Joan(e) Jeffery
on 17 January 1617(or 1618/1619) at Titchfield. In his father’s 1618 Will, James was noted as “of the parish of Drexford”, as was Thomas Knight Senclares: both were appointed overseers along with Nicholas Waller of Swanswicke in Titchfield. [Perhaps James married more
James and Joan(e) were the parents of [at least]:
James Littlefield died on Christmas Eve, 24 December 1661 at Titchfield, Hants., and was buried thereat. [The LDS Ancestoral File also has a William Littlefield (christened 5 December 1619, Titchfield) the son of Francis.]
[Jhon Leetelffeelde], born and baptised November 1633 at Hambledon, Hampshire, was the son of JAMES
LITTLEFIELD and his wife JOANE JEFFERY. John married Susan Hogsflesh,
daughter of JOHIS HOGSFLESH, on 16 July 1657 at Hambledon. Susan(na) had been
baptised at Hambledon on 22 November 1635. Susan Hogfflesh's siblings baptised
at Hambledon included Elizabetha Hoggflesh (9 June 1625), Franciscus Hoggsflesh (16 March 1627), Amy Hoggsflesh (19? February 1629 [1630G]; married Henry Hunt
at Hambledon on 5 September 1653), and probably Johoonas Hoggsflesh (5 May 1633).
It appears that John and Susanna had one child:
Susan Leetelfield, wife of John, was buried at Hambledon on 7 June 1658; a Willyam
Leetelffield had been buried there on 12 May 1658.
John married again on 5 May 1659, his second wife being Elizabeth Soane. Elizabeth Soane may have been the daughter of JOHN SOANE baptised at Hambledon on 26 August 1627, but was probably the daughter of HENRY SOANE baptised at Hambledon on 22 November 1635 [the same day as Susanna Hogsflesh]. Henry Soane had married MARGARITA DROVER [Sherwood has DREWE] [Henricus Soane et Margarita Drewe] at Hambledon on 3 December 1629 - Margarita's surname is difficult read on the parish register microfilm: the entry seems to read:
Henrici Soane et Margarita Driver matrimono 3 December 1629
Drover could be Driver or Dorunz or something else. Cf John Dovunz? [Driver?] married two years later:
John Dovunz et Catherine Rappon matrimono 14 Quinilus 1631.
Elizabeth Soane's siblings baptised at Hambledon included Henricus Soane (5 September 1630), Thomas Soane (15 April 1637), Humfredus Soane (15 April 1638/40), Margaret Soane (4 and 7 March 1642) and Mary Soane (21 February 1649 [1650G]; married Jhon Porter at Hambledon on 12 October 1654)
John and Elizabeth were the parents of:
John Littlefield died 17 November 1709 at Hambledon. Elizabeth, reportedly born 1637 at Hambledon, appears to have died in 1706.
John Littlefield, christened at Hambledon, Hampshire in 10 January 1660, the son of JOHN LITTLEFIELD and ELIZABETH SOANE, married Mary Bean at Hambledon on 1 June 1696. John and Mary were the parents of:
The existence and details of the first of the following marriages for James Littlefield (to Elizabeth Miller) are from http://keevil.topcities.com/page151.html , which also details the second marriage (to Mary Humphrey). The latter marriage had been independently detailed by this author, and a prior marriage helps account for James being 40 years old when he married Mary. It is puzzling why he left Hambledon for Portsmouth and his first marriage yet returned to Hambledon for the second marriage.
James Littlefield, aged 22, seemingly the son baptised on 7 February 1675g to JOHN LITTLEFIELD and ELIZABETH SOANE, married Elizabeth Miller at St Thomas’, Portsmouth on 9 May 1697. Elizabeth, baptised 22 July 1676 at St Thomas’, Portsmouth, was a daughter of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH MILLER. James and Elizabeth had the following children:
It appears that James Littlefield later married Mary Humphrey at Hambledon, Hampshire, on 5 December 1715 . Mary may have been the Mary Humphrey baptised at Hambledon on 30 September 1682, a daughter of ANDREW HUMPHREY. James and Mary were the parents of:
A James Littlefield, senior, was buried at Hambledon on 14 September 1753. The widow of James Littlefield was buried thereat on 11 February 1755.
James Littlefield, baptised February 1702g at St Thomas’, Portsmouth, son of JAMES LITTLEFIELD and ELIZABETH MILLER, married Sarah Whiteling in October 1724 in St Thomas’, Portsmouth. Sarah had apparently been baptised at St Thomas’, Portsmouth, on 1 January 1628j [1629g]. James and Sarah had five children:
Joseph Littlefield, baptised 5 November 1725 at St Thomas’, Portsmouth, son of JAMES LITTLEFIELD and SARAH WHITELING, married Ann Roper on 22 June 1755 in Alverstoke, nine issue [per John B Kaher's website, accessed 2011]:
Rebecca Catherine Littlefield, baptised 5 July 1776 at St Thomas’, Portsmouth, was a daughter of JOSEPH LITTLEFIELD and ANN ROPER. Rebecca married Luke Kent on 2 November 1796 in Portsmouth, at lease one issue:
George Littlefield, born in 1717, son of JAMES LITTLEFIELD and MARY HUMPHREY, was aged 28 when he married Mary Farley on 26 May 1745 in Portchester, Hampshire. They had nine children:
A George Littlefield was buried at Hambledon on 24 September 1780.
John Littlefield, born in 1719, son of JAMES LITTLEFIELD and MARY HUMPHREY, was aged 24 when he married Mary Bedford in February 1743/4 at Hambledon. They had three children:
William Littlefield, baptised April 1722 at Hambledon, Hampshire, son of JAMES LITTLEFIELD and MARY HUMPHREY , and Sarah [perhaps Sarah Wheeler, who married a William Littlefield at St Mary's Portsea, Hampshire, in October 1742 ] were the parents of:
There was also:
[For details of this family refer to the Outon-Searley file.]
Hambledon parish lies some 15½km north of Portsmouth in Hampshire, in the Hambledon Hundred. The Hambledon parish registers record events from the late 1500s. The Hogsflesh name first appears in the parish registers with a baptism in 1625 for a child of John Hogsflesh (pre-dating related names such as Soane and Littlefield); the last Hogsflesh baptism was in 1775.
Susan Hogsflesh’s siblings baptised at Hambledon included Elizabeth Hogflesh (Elizabetha, daughter of Johis Hoggflefh, baptised 9 June 1625), Francis Hogsflesh (Franciscus, son of Johis Hoggflesh, baptised 30 February 1627), Amy Hoggsflesh (Amy, daughter of John Hogfflefh, baptised 19? February 1630g [1629j]; married Henry Hunt at Hambledon on 5 September 1653), and John Hogsflesh (Johannes, son of Johannis Hoggesflesh, baptised 5 May 1633).
John Hogsflesh, the Hogsflesh progenitor in Hambledon, had the following children baptised in the Hambledon parish church:
A John Hogsflesh was buried at Hambledon on 27 October 1656; Anne Hogsflesh, a widow, was buried at Hambledon on 12 December 1656.
Amy Hogsflesh, baptised at Hambledon, baptised 1? January 1629j [1630g], the daughter of JOHN HOGSFLESH, married Henry Hunt in the parish church at Hambledon on 5 September 1653.
John Hogsflesh, son of JOHN HOGSFLESH, was baptised at Hambledon, Hampshire, on 5 May 1633. He married Ann Manfeld (or Manv(r)ell) in the parish church at Hambledon on 9 December 1657, where their children were baptised as follows:
Another John Hogsflesh was buried at Hambledon 31 July 1676. A widow Hogsflesh was buried at Hambledon on 7 September 1712.
Thomas Hogsflesh, son of JOHN HOGSFLESH, was born 17 February and baptised 24 February 1666j [1667g] at Hambledon. It is possible that Thomas' wife was Elizabeth Lipscome, baptised on 23 December 1666 at Rogate, Sussex, the daughter of RALPHE LIPSCOME and MARGARET AYLING. The following children were baptised in the parish church at Hambledon for a Thomas Hogsflesh:
Thomas Hogsflesh, probably the son baptised 12 December 1699 at Hambledon to JOHN HOGSFLESH [though possibly the son baptised 24 June 1703 for FRANCIS HOGSFLESH, though that Thomas is believed to have died circa 30 July 1736] appears to have married Elisabeth Ford at Hambledon on 30 September 1729. Elisabeth was baptised at East Meon on 25 May 1706, the daughter of DANIEL FORD (born 1676, East Meon; buried 11 March 1729 at East Meon) and ELIZABETH WEBB (baptised 22 October 1681 at East Meon; buried 11 November 1729 at East Meon). Thomas and Elisabeth appear to have been the father of nine children baptised at Hambledon for a Thomas Hogsflesh:
Francis Hogsflesh, son of JOHN HOGSFLESH, was baptised 7 January 1669j [1670g] at Hambledon. The following children were baptised in the parish church at Hambledon for a Francis Hogsflesh:
Francis Hogsflesh, son of FRANCIS HOGSFLESH, baptised 14 July 1706 in the parish church at Hambledon, appears to have married Ann Harfel at Hambledon on18 October 1734 and to have been the father of the four children baptised at Hambledon for a Francis Hogsflesh:
Francis Hogsflesh, son of FRANCIS HOGSFLESH, baptised 22 March 1746j [1747g] at Hambledon, appears to have been the father of the five children baptised at Hambledon for a Francis Hogsflesh:
Susanna Hogsflesh, daughter of JOHN HOGSFLESH, was baptised at Hambledon, Hampshire, on 22 November 1635. She became the first wife of John Littlefield when they married in the parish church at Hambledon on 16 July 1657 (after publication of Banns)xlvi. It appears that John and Susanna had one child:
Susan Leetelfield, wife of John, was buried at Hambledon on 7 June 1658, possibly the result of complications in childbirth.
John Littlefield married again on 5 May 1659, his second wife being Elizabeth Soane (probably the daughter of HENRY SOANE baptised at Hambledon on 22 November 1635, the same day as Susanna Hogsflesh). By Elizabeth he had seven children (see below).
The first Soane baptism in the Hambledon parish register [1569-1876] was in 1626; the 58th and last was in 1770.
A George Soon married Elizabeth Kemp on 28 October 1723xlviii; it is not clear who was George’s father. George and Eliza were the parents of several children:
A Daniel Soon, perhaps the Daniel Sone, son of John, born 7 January 1695 and baptised 14 Janiuary 1695 at Warblington, Hampshire [possibly the locality 5km north of Hambledon or the parish 12½km southeast of Hambledon in Havant] was the father of:
The Hambledon parish registers shew earlier Soane baptisms – John Soane fathered the following children [note: again, names have been Anglicised]:
The earliest Soane burial at Hambledon was for Elizabeth Soane (6 July 1626, parents unknown). John Soane (senior) [possibly the father of Henry and John?] was buried 2 March 1628, a Maria Soan on 12 October 1640, Margret Soane on 10 July 1643, Henry Soane on 20 January 1650g and Breeght Soane on 13 December 1651.
Henry Soane married Margarita Drewe at Hambledon, Hampshire, on 3 December 1629. Margarita’s surname is difficult read on the parish register microfilm — this author and Sherwood each read “Drewe”, others simply interpret “D.”; it could be Drover or Driver or Dorunz et cetera [note the writing of the “us” in Henricus]:
Henry fathered the following children baptised at Hambledon [note: the names have been Anglicised]:
John Soane, seemingly the son baptised 22 September 1633 at Hambledon to HENRY SOANE, was the father of:
Raphaell Soane, baptised 10 November 1657 at Hambledon the son of JOHN SOANE, was the father of:
Raphaell Soane, baptised 13 October 1697 at Hambledon the son of RAPHAELL SOANE, was the father of:
James Soane, baptised 30 January 1726j [1727g] at Hambledon the son of RAPHAELL SOANE, was the father of:
James Soane , baptised 26 April 1737 at Hambledon the son of RAPHAELL SOANE, married Elizabeth Merrott at the parish church of Sts Peter and Paul, Hambledon, Hampshire, on 24 December 1758; James was the father of:
Elizabeth Soane, baptised 22 September 1633 at Hambledon, daughter of HENRY SOANE, married widower John Littlefield; they were the parents of seven children (see Section 188.8.131.52.1 above).
Thomas Soane, seemingly the son baptised 15 April 1637 at Hambledon to HENRY SOANE, was the father of:
Thomas Soane, seemingly the son baptised 18 March 1667j [1668g] at Hambledon to THOMAS SOANE, was the father of:
It is possible that Thomas Soane, the son baptised 14 August 1720 at Hambledon to THOMAS SOANE, married Ann Coleman at the parish church of Sts Peter and Paul, Hambledon, Hampshire, on 26 August 1753; Thomas was the father of:
Joseph Soane, seemingly the son baptised 17 February 1722j [1723g] at Hambledon to THOMAS SOANE, was the father of:
